With a background in community engagement and environmental education work, Fiona first worked in the world of food in 2009 when she joined the Growing Communities team. She started out by helping to run the veg scheme. Later, she also took on a marketing role with the organisation, as well as coordinating learning opportunities on their food growing sites. She set up the Hackney Growers’ Kitchen with two others – an ethical catering company – in 2014. They ran a weekly food stall at Stoke Newington Farmers’ Market between 2015-17 and catered for local cafes as well as community events. For the last 5 years she has worked with local cookery school, Made in Hackney, teaching plant-based cooking in community settings around Hackney. She also coordinates a community project at a local community centre in Hackney (much of the work there centres around food not to mention their weekly community cafe!) and is responsible for participant recruitment, completing funding applications, outreach and much more. In her personal time, she runs a neighbourhood wholesale organic coop.
